Thornhill is the historical name
of two and one half acre parcel of land on which my studio and home are
located. The existing landscape is has woods, scattered
rock outcroppings, areas of open space and rolling topography. I have made
these existing features the basis of my plan and vision for the property.
Over the years, I have created an informal network of destinations and connectors that link them, physically and visually. Walking from place to place, visitor's have chance encounters with garden structures, artifacts or sculptures. They also have opportunities to pause, at points of respite, to relax and reflect. Experiences along the way can be as interesting and enjoyable as the destinations. For me, Thornhill is a living laboratory for the exploration of ideas based upon the premises and principles of placescaping ---- the process of creating natural and man-made environments that reflect and respect indigenous landscapes, natural materials and vernacular architectural structures further reconnecting people visually, psychologically and spiritually with their surroundings. |
