Grazing Cultivores

Cultivores exist at the nexus of traditional agriculture and modern organic farming. Created from reclaimed and repurposed obsolete walk-behind cultivators, remnants of early agrarian America, they remind us of the time when horses and men toiled together taming the land.

Cultivores have a historic and intimate connection to the soil and the miraculous process by which seed, sun and water combine to produce Nature's bounty.

Through my artistic intervention and adaptation, they are equipped with highly sensitive antennae, which allow them to identify and locate organic farms.

Cultivores are herd animals, preferring to live and travel as a group. The herd is pictured here browsing at Wheatley Farm in Stanfordville, New York where they are receiving the green carpet treatment --- hundreds of acres of natural pasture for their grazing pleasure.

Huddled together against the barn, protected from the cold, the herd anxiously awaits the end of Winter and the arrival of fresh Spring grass.
