This park-like setting, five acres of fields and woods bordering Lieutenant River in Old Lyme, Connecticut, is the creation of sculptor Gilbert Boro. I exhibit my work here on an ongoing basis.

The common element of these sculptures is their elegantly shaped, subtly tapered vertical saw blades. There is a strong visual tension resulting from the contrast between the blades' edges ---- one straight and smooth and the opposing one serrated and sharp. These works possess a physical agility that comes from the flexibility of the blades. Their rythmic motion is an important part of the interaction with each other and the viewer.

Combining sound and motion, Commotion consists of four equally spaced vertical blades with small hollow spheres located at their tops. When viewed head on, the blades appear as thin lines, with the spheres seeming to float in air. The location and weight of the spheres makes the blades very sensitive and responsive to atmospheric changes. As the blades sway, the spheres make contact with each other, producing random subtle ever changing music. |
